Music is considered as one of the biggest influence in the society, especially for youngsters. It dictates the way they dress, how they walk and talk, their behavior. To sum it up, their lifestyle. It gives them the feeling of belongingness among peers and teaches them about life’s reality. A person’s preference in music is usually associated with his or her personality. Music, just like any other individual’s personality has different qualities and traits that make it unique.
Heavy Metal and Rock music are famous music genres across all generation, particularly among teenagers. This type of music is popular for its strong vocal melody usually accompanied by guitar, drums, and bass. Most teens who are into these genres are independent, dress according to how they feel and do not usually go with fashion fads. They dress not to impress peers, but they dress according to what will make them comfortable. Young adults who love rock and heavy metal music are usually creatively emotional as they write, sing, and play according to what their emotions dictate them. But as rock music evolves, new rock sub-genre like Emo imposed a distinct fashion trend among its followers. Despite its expressive style, Emo is still a confirmation how emotional and expressive this music and its listeners are.
Pop music, which is generally popular for its mainstream style and rhythmic elements, on the other hand is closely related to fashion and fame, the reason why it sells and performs well on charts and countdowns all over the world. Not to mention the famous pop personalities like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Gwen Stefani, and Paris Hilton, adding spice to this controversial music variety. They don’t just sing, but they sing to dress, the reason why they are stable paparazzi favorites.
RnB, Rap, and Hip Hop can be described as lifestyle genres simply because it affects how young adults accessorize cars, what clothes wear and which brands to buy, and the hottest places to hang out. Artists belonging to this music category are famous for their “blings”, symbolizing luxurious brotherhood. Some famous RnB, Rap, and Hip Hop stars among teens are Alicia Keys, Usher, 50cent, Eminem, and Nelly.
Music is about freedom and expressing thoughts and emotions. Like human beings, every music genre represents different flavors and individuality making it different from each other.
