How Mobile Phone Companies Do It

August 15th, 2008 Comments(0)

With tons of mobile manufacturers fighting over the market’s attention, industry players can’t help but think of ways and means to keep the buyers excited and continue patronizing their brand. To do this, cellphone companies collaborate with fashion icons, work with big music labels and artists, or go for long term advantage by integrating exclusive mobile content in their mobile units.

Samsung, Motorola, and LG opted to partner with the big names of the fashion industry to showcase fashion and functionality in their products. As for some mobile phone companies, they work with music icons and music labels to target specific audience — the artists’ followers, to promote their brand.

As for the rest who go for long term benefits, they work with content providers for mobile game applications, mobile ringtones, and other mobile downloads for exclusive and pre- installed mobile content for each mobile unit.

A healthy competition motivates cellphone companies to be more innovative in designing and developing new product. In order for the consumers to patronize their products, they should always offer something new, without sacrificing the looks, functionality, and the cost.

Mobile Content from the Friendly Neighborhood Kiosk Near You

July 29th, 2008 Comments(0)

For GenY-ers, when they say mobile content, what they mean is the mobile ringtones and wallpapers, which they can download directly from their mobile phones. Apparently, a company wants to create a new meaning to the word “mobile content” and “mobile download”. This company is introducing a new channel for mobile download aficionados where they can get their favorite mobile content. And this is through mobile download kiosks.

The company’s selling proposition is to offer customers with their favorite mobile downloads from music, movies, audio books and other media directly to their handy phones while inside the store. This is a move to boost up their sales and promote loyalty among clients, by offering them alternative (in-house) content portal.

Our say on this: This might work if the kiosks will just be an add-on feature for waiting customers, to entertain them. Yes, the mobile download kiosk concept might work. But if it will be considered as income generating avenue, I don’t think so. Since the most percentage of mobile users is the teens and tweens, who prefer to have everything in a single button, it will be difficult to pull this off. Because for sure, they will prefer to get the content they want directly from their mobile phones.

Mobile Gala

Mobile phone designers and manufacturers are getting more creative these days. Some are focusing on the design, several on the features, while others are paying more attention to details. Here are two of the most interesting masterpieces we can expect in the market today.

First inline among the “extra” experimental mobile phone architecture is the Bluetooth Umbrella. The model name speaks for itself. It’s an umbrella with Bluetooth attached on the handle that facilitates hands-free operation of your mobile phone.

Talking about innovative mobile phone designs, next on the list is from a company called MobiFrance. They came up with the French Luxury (aka Eiffel phone) mobile phone. This handy phone is designed after the look of the famous Eiffel Tower of France.

Given that you find either of the two phone models fascinating, it’s quite interesting (and entertaining) to discover what you will chose for your ringtones or wallpapers. Will you go with the flow and decide according to how your gadget looks like?

There’s nothing wrong with being artistic when it comes to creating new models of cellular phones. Just bear in mind the main purpose why customers buy mobile phones, to call and send SMS to their love ones.

Mobile Fashion 101

June 24th, 2008 Comments(0)

Fashion doesn’t only mean clothes, shoes, and accessories. Nowadays, it also applies to personalizing gadgets like mobile phones, laptops, and music players.

For laptops, aside from the colorful bags and mouse, you can also refurbish your notebooks with trendy laptop skins.  There are a lot of shops offering customized skins according to clients’ taste. The price depends on the design and materials used.

Music players also have their say on fashion. There are tons of covers, cases and straps that represent the owner’s mood and personality.

As for mobile units, there are plenty of ways on how you can fix up your cellular phones.  First, change your mobile unit’s case. You may opt for loud color or printed designs if you’re bold and artistic enough. After the covers, you can choose mobile wallpaper that represents your distinct characteristics.  Then, pimp your mobile phones with your favorite ringtones from your favorite artists.

Just keep in mind, there are no exact rules in fashion. It’s all about being creative, fresh and funky!

May the best Ringtone win!

Candidates of the 2008 US Presidential Elections found a way to remind voters to go out, make their choice, and write their name on the ballot.

From the current contenders McCain and Obama to the former aspirant Clinton, almost all candidates included mobile downloads- both ringtones and wallpapers, as part of their election campaign strategies.

Statistics reveal that most US votes are from Generation Y and US mobile users. Gen-Y voters are those of ages 18- 29 years old. They are the perfect mobile campaign target because these voters spend 70 percent of their time on mobile phones (talking and texting) than other age groups of cell phone users. As for the mobile consumer population in the US, four in five American voters (almost 80%) are cellular phone owners, a solid and well targeted audience for stiff Presidential competition.

What’s more interesting about the mobile downloads campaign, is that these candidates also acknowledge their target mobile users’ different tastes in music.

To answer their voters’ diverse music preferences, candidates had their mobile ringtones in different versions – hip hop, alternative and rock. How euphoric is that!?
